Welcome back to Pacific Eye Doctors! We call it The Clean Zone.

We have modified our operations to keep you and our community healthy. These changes include increased spacing, disinfection, touchless transactions, mandatory masking and accomplishing as much as possible over the phone. Call (604) 463-7127 for an appointment or service.

For those with an appointment *PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING and follow instructions to keep yourself and everyone in the clinic safe.

When you arrive at our parking lot:
Phone us from your car at (604) 463-7127 to “check-in.” We will bring you into the clinic when it’s time.

What to expect on the day of your exam:

1.) In these times things take longer. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. Thanks for your patience!

2.) You may come to Pacific Eye Doctors only if you can safely answer no to the following questions:

a.) Have you had contact with a known COVID-19 case in the past 14 days? ( protected front line workers exempt)

b.) If you recently had COVID or COVID like symptoms (sore throat, fever, fatigue, loss of smell, or respiratory symptoms), do you still have symptoms now or has it been less than 10 days since the onset of symptoms?

i. If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, call us and we will happily reschedule your appointment.

3. Bring all of the glasses you use and a list of your current medications.

4. Wear your glasses to the exam, bring your contact lenses

5. Arrive alone. Exception: One caregiver or translator is allowed to accompany the patient. This means we are not seeing young family groups at this time (unless the children are old enough to return to the car when they are finished.)

6. Wear your own mask and leave it on for the duration of your visit.

7. Bring nothing extra with you. One purse OK if needed.

8. If you have long enough hair, please tie it back.

9. Wash or sanitize your hands upon entry and exit.

10. Normally we enjoy chatting with our patients and catching up on their lives. Unfortunately, during the COVID pandemic, there will be less of that. Our focus is to serve you efficiently, and safely, and then have you on your way. We will strive to do as much as possible over the phone prior to your arrival so your time in the clinic will be as brief as possible.

Very Important: You will be asked if you want these optional tests. Decide NOW so you are prepared:

For Adults: In advocating the highest standard of eye care, we recommend the following two optional tests be included with your full adult exam:

OCT Laser Scan – $44: In depth cross section of the most valuable aspect of your eye, the macula. It uses 53,000 scans per second to allow us to investigate individual retinal layers for early detection of macular degeneration, macular holes, diabetic retinopathy, membranes and glaucoma.

Recommended:

  • First time visit to serve as a baseline
  • If you have concerns of macular degeneration, glaucoma, or visual distortion
  • > age 60: every 2 years
  • Those with macular issues: every year

Visual Field Screening – $17: This test answers the question of whether there are areas of your vision that are not as sensitive as it is for others in your age demographic. This is valuable in the early detection of many diseases such as glaucoma, brain tumours, and optic nerve disease.

Recommended:

  • First visit as a baseline
  • > age 60: every 2 years
  • For specific concerns, e.g. concussion, unusual headaches, & neurological symptoms

Would you like the OCT and/or Visual Field Screening included in your Adult Exam?

For Kids: In advocating for the highest standard of eye care for your child, we recommend Ultra-Wide Field Retinal Imaging (after age 5) and Visual Field Screening (after age 8) be included with their exam.

Ultra-wide Field Retinal Image – $20: This photo becomes a permanent record of your child’s current eye condition. Over the years, changes can be detected as we reference this baseline image. This technology was actually created by a father whose young son had a peripheral retinal tear and detachment. Recommended:

  • Begin age 5 once as a baseline
  • Then every few years, especially after head or eye trauma

Recommended:

  • Begin age 5 once as a baseline
  • Then every few years, especially after head or eye trauma

Visual Field Screening – $17: This maps the peripheral field of vision of each eye. Are there areas of your child’s vision that are not as sensitive compared to others in the same age demographic? This is valuable in the early detection of many diseases such as glaucoma, brain tumours, and optic nerve disease.

Recommended:

  • Earliest testing at age 8
  • For specific concerns, e.g. concussion, unusual headaches, &
  • neurological symptoms

Would you like the Ultra-wide Retinal Image and/or Visual Field Screening included in your Child’s Exam?

We look forward to your upcoming visit.

Thank you,

Your Team at Pacific Eye Doctors
