Visual Field Testing

Pacific Eye Doctors is equipped with a Frequency Doubling Technology (FDT) Visual Field Analyzer.  The FDT test is safe, painless and only requires 45 seconds of your time. It could save your eyesight.

WARNING:  Millions of people suffer from glaucoma without even knowing it.  That’s why it’s often referred to as the “sneak thief” of sight.  Most commonly, patients have no symptoms at all and may even have 20/20 vision, but peripheral visual field loss has already occurred by the time glaucoma is diagnosed. That’s why it is important to have regular eye exams with our Maple Ridge eye doctor that include a visual field test.

The FDT is a state-of-the-art instrument that has proven highly useful in the early detection of glaucoma and other eye disorders.  Regular testing with the FDT is a safe, fast, noninvasive and reliable way to detect glaucoma and other eye diseases.

A visual field test measures how much 'side' vision you have. It is a straightforward test, painless, and does not involve eye drops. Essentially lights are flashed on, and you have to press a button whenever you see the light. Your head is kept still and you have to place your chin on a chin rest. The lights are bright or dim at different stages of the test. Some of the flashes are purely to check you are concentrating.
